The Holodeck
The Holodeck used to be South Africa's liveliest BBS conference, hosted by Mike Hesse on the Digitec and Onwe BBSs in Johannesburg, but there's not much there now. Better come over to the WORLDCHAT conference instead.
The South African BBS scene is pretty dead at the moment, but you can find some old BBSers on the Worldchat conference
Who was who on the 'Deck
Here is a list of some of the participants in the Holodeck - as they wrote it. I take no responsibility for the contents of the list - I asked people to submit the information, and this is what they sent me, as they sent it. Since they have not been active in the Holodeck for some time, their addresses may be out of date, but if you're looking for old friends you might like to take a chance anyway.

- Ric Beattie -
Skinny and somewhat balding layabout who has failed to realise lifelong
ambitions to give up beer and look like John Travolta. NOTE: Ric Beattie died in Feb 2000. I've left his info as a small memorial of him and his contribution to BBSing.
- Alan Bevis - NOTE: Al has been ill, and his BBS crashed while he was in hospital.
- Mathew Clark -

I'm an Orthodox Christian and a superannuated wannabe beatnik. My hobbies are
family history, BBSing and reading. I like reading history and theology, and in
fiction I like fantasy, especially the work of C.S. Lewis, Tolkien and Charles
Williams. I'm also interested in some of the Beat generation writers, like Jack
Kerouac. I'm interested in the relation between religion, ideology, culture and
language, and enjoy discussions of language usage and cultural differences
between people.
- Andrew D. Lewis -

I own a very high quality Hi-Fi, which I use to listen to a very wide range of
music, from classical, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Rock and Pop music. I keep on playing
with my computer at home, not that I do much "work" with it. As for fishing I
enjoy flyfishing or artificial lure/spin fishing when I get the chance. I also
tend read about any subject that takes my fancy.
- Lindsay Walker -
My mother used to call me a long, thin slab of misery: 1,91m, 75kg. Thinning
floppy hair, melancholic horsey face, glasses. I have not yet decided what I
want to be when I grow up.
- Glenys Williams -
Very volatile E-mail me
And news of some who were not listed, but were active in the Holodeck:
- Mike Hesse suffered a heart attack in May 2003, and died.
Whether you were on the Holodeck or not, take a look at the WORLDCHAT conference page.

World chat is a bit like the Holodeck, but with an international flavour. It's also a lot more active these days. We'd especially like to invite old south African BBSers, from Fidonet, FamilyNet, RIME or standalone BBSs to join us.
